Amazon Author Central is where authors manage how they appear on Amazon: the author page, the bio and photo beside every book, and a few useful numbers. It is free, it takes twenty minutes, and it is one of the few things on Amazon that makes every book page slightly more convincing at once.
What Author Central lets you do
- An author page listing your books, with your bio and photo, in several languages.
- Followers: readers can follow you and hear about new releases; you can see your follower count.
- Numbers: Best Sellers Rank and customer reviews for your books, and — in the US — BookScan print sales data.
- Editorial reviews (US): quotes from reviewers and other authors shown on the book page.
Author pages in other countries show your US information, and it cannot be edited from there.
How to set it up
- Go to author.amazon.com and sign in with your Amazon account.
- Search for one of your books and claim it as yours; Amazon confirms that you are the author.
- Add every book, in every format, so they appear together on your page.
- Write a short bio in the third person: who you are, what you write, and why readers of your books will care.
- Add a clear, recent author photo.
Why it matters for your ads
An ad buys a visit to your book page. What happens next depends on how convincing that page is — and a real author, with a face, a bio and a shelf of books, is more convincing than a name with nothing behind it. A finished author page also lets a reader who liked one book find the others, which is how series and backlists earn back the cost of the click that found the reader.
